The 500 universities in this ranking are evaluated based on six criteria, including the number of award-winning lecturers, the number of posts in prestigious journals such as Nature and Science.
ARWU ratings are published annually since 2013 by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. This ranking gives another perspective on the world's best universities compared to the Times Higher Education rankings - also one of the most prestigious rankings today.
